Streaming media and Web production Workshop - Sydney

Metro Screen in association with Multimedia Australia-Asia Pacific, the
College of Fine Arts UNSW and Apple Australia are holding an intensive five
week workshop, a spring school in streaming media and web production.

The five week intensive will start on August 23nd 1999 in the digital media
studio at Metro Screen. The objective of this course will be to teach film
& video makers how to repackage their works to take advantage of the
opportunities for delivery and distribution on the web. Film and video
makers will come to the workshop material already shot, finished on film or
video but available as video (SVHS, BetaSP or DVCAM, DVPRO). They will
integrate this material into a multimedia website which can include
graphics, text, sound, animation and streaming video. This reinterpreted
will be able to be screened on the web. The work produced on this course
will be showcased on a series of websites which Metro will host.

The web components will be authored using Macromedia Dreamweaver
supplemented with talks by artists working on the web and demonstrations of
more advanced technologies such as Java, VRML, Flash and shocked
interactive (director). Media 100 suites will be used to recapture source
video to be prepared for web delivery.

There are 9 heavily subsidised positions (cost $250 or $50 a week). Work
produced at workshop will be exhibited online at the end of the intensive
through the College of Fine Arts Paddington UNSW and screened as part of
Multimedia Arts Asia Pacific 99/Asia Pacific Triennial Brisbane.

The site will be active for only one month.
