"Me" "Me" Semi Project
A unique interactive sound enviroment for FM radio broadcast and Real
Audio Broadcast over the internet, Involving the participation of Radio
Wai Wai and Xebec Corporation.

In the summer months in Japan, The sometimes deafening chorus of Cicadas
become part of the urban and rural sonic enviroment. In the Kansai area,
(Kobe Osaka) the most common Cicada is known as the 'Mi Mi Semi'
because of their persistent screeching (mi mi mi mi mi mi) While the
Cicada has an extremely long develoment period (13-17 years) the  winged
adult is alive for approximately one month, and it is in this phase that
one can hear the screeched mating call......    me   me   me   me
me     me     me

This Project is a collaboration between Sean Roe, Onishi Takashi and
Okinaka Itaru as part of the 6th Rokko Island Open Air Contemporary Art
Exhibition,  Marine Park on Rokko Island.

Sean Roe will perform at Rokko island, using his own voice, the voices
of people gathered to view the performance and samples and recordings of
residents of the island. A Chorus of human voices imitating the call of
the Cicada. Simultaneously, Onishi Takashi and Okinaka Itaru will
perform  on Guitar and Saxophone at Xebec on Port Island, relayed live
by telephone line to Rokko Island where the sounds are mixed and
transmitted to Radio Wai Wai. There will also be live, but slightly time
lapsed broadcast by Real Audio over the internet.

Listeners to  FM Radio Wai Wai (77.8 Mhz) are invited to participate in
the performance by calling in and stating the location they are calling
from followed by a 10 second imitation of the cicadas sound. Callers
from Japan and overseas are also welcome. Please call in state your
location (city/country) and you have 10 seconds for your imitation of a
cicada.

The Performance takes place  on Sunday 22nd August between 4.25pm and
