here is our Newsletter # 4/99 to inform you about WOMEX99 Berlin. The 
worldwide music expo is the world's premier networking point exclusively 
dedicated to world, roots, folk, ethnic, traditional and local music of 
all kinds. If you are involved in any aspect of worldwide music, this is for you. 

The final showcase list is now starting to fall into line: SIMENTERA - 
the future of Capverdian Morna are increasing the number of groups who 
are shopping for a record deal at WOMEX, JIVAN GASPARYAN - the Duduk 
maestro from Armenia brings his quartett from Jerewan to present 
traditional music of the Caucasus, NITIN SAWNHEY, new guitar hero from 
the Asian quarter of London breaks free and Reggae Philarmonic Orchestra 
successors INSTRUMENTAL combine with The Big Chill inhouse DJ Pete 
Lawrence for a 21 century WOMEX club case. With the first WOMEX award
ceremony shaping up for Sunday morning highnoon one more showcase is
still in the closet. 

For Sunday night a very special bonuscase is on offer! The first 100 
global players who have fully registered and who will still be 
in town on sunday evening can send us a mailto:bonus@xxxxxxxx to be on 
the guest-list for Juan de Marcos' AFRO-CUBAN ALL STARS (yes, those from
the Buena Vista Social Club project).
Lucky stars will make them perform in Berlin that WOMEX afternight.
First come, first served, with one exception from the
rule: locals cannot participate. Sorry. 

The WOMEX Guide will contain the vital contacts of and for all 
registrants, showcase artists, conference speakers and exhibitors. 
Indispensible at WOMEX and your desk throughout the year. Please make 
sure that you do not miss the ADVERTISEMENT BOOKING DEADLINE (21 Sep) 
and GUIDE RATE DEADLINE (27 Sep). After 27 Sep 99 you will have to pay 
more AND your address cannot be included in the WOMEX99 Guide. 

If you have already registered please check webpage WHO IS COMING on 
http://www.womex.de for your name. If you find it, be happy, if not 
mailto:registration@xxxxxxxx for advice. But make sure before that you 
have really registered: EVERYBODY has to fill in the registration form, 
whatever your status is. Are we not all VIPs, somehow?
