the lost minute
...
This site is about time and how we experience it. It's been on-line since
the first of January 2001.
It explores how we listen to our environment. It also means to contemplate
on the various ways of manipulation of meaning.
In the summer of 1999, Ward Weis and Ronny Pringels where recording a series
of miniature documentaries. In a small village near Ghent they recorded two
minutes of ambience to use later in one of the miniatures.
During those two minutes a plane flew over.
Back in the studio Ward cut the plane out of the recording and hey presto:
tranquillity returned to the village. It sounded like the plane never
disturbed the quiet afternoon. A simple but very drastic procedure had
altered the way things happened
You are welcome to join in and discuss these issues with us. Let us know
what you think.
