FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JANUARY 30th 2001
Studio XX, Montreal?s women?s media art centre is pleased to present the
4th edition of its Maid in Cyberspace Festival. Featuring artistic
works at the forefront of new technologies and bringing together both
national and international women artists, the festival takes place
February 7th to 11th at the Cinémathèque québécoise, 335, de Maisonneuve
Est, Montreal and online at www. studioxx.org. Maid in Cyberspace
highlights artists who use the Internet as a medium. Ten Web Art
projects will be featured originating from Europe, Asia and Canada. In
addition to these Web creations, the festival offers multi-media
installations, conferences, a visual and sound performance to be held
online live from Australia, Italy and New-York, and the Montreal
première of a Web jam uniting Montreal and Latvian artists. The
festival?s web site will stream live performances and host daily
interviews with artists. Amongst the work shown, you will discover
provocative, meditative, unsettling and subversive works that explore
the full creative potential of the Internet. Original initiatives, the
festival?s innovative productions offer pertinent reflections on the Web
as a space of construction, deconstruction and identity transformation
all tackling this year?s theme: Mutating Cultures an Identities. A
journey of initiation or a technophile?s tour through the latest digital
art trajectories, the festival also provides an opportunity to question
current identity and cultural trends. Interactive experiences and
reflections will be at the forefront of this challenging, illuminating
festival.
