The Danube Streaming Show

The tugboat "Josef" which will land on the Danube canal at the
Schwedenbrücke at midday on Sunday will serve as stage for the artists'
sound performances and video installations, but also as an acoustic body
and sender/receiver for the live radio programme.

During the day, W.A.S. will arrange two roundtrips (at 12.00 and 3.30 p.m.)
where the passengers can hear and see acoustic micropieces and video works
dealing with the Danube, shipping a.o. whilst the artists collect sounds.
The acoustic sources are a range of surrounding sounds - the tugboat itself
and the humming of its motor, the water, passengers, but also underwater
sounds, music boxes which play the Blue Danube Waltz when opening them and
other acoustic treasures, recorded streaming contributions from a virtual
trip along the Danube from partner institutions in Bratislava, Belgrade,
and Novi Sad etc.
These sounds, tones, noises, waterscapes are later on entered into the
evening performance (9.00 p.m.) - partly the original sounds are played,
others are mixed on spot. Besides within the "Sound-Fishing"
performance/intervention, the sounds collected during the afternoon
roundtrips will be played into the Danube with underwater loudspeakers; the
artists/anglers then "fish" for these sounds - now mixed with the "singing"
and bubbling of the Danube stream - with underwater micros and use them for
the performance. Reni Hofmüller will use the total of sounds summoned in
this soundscape - an acoustic sojourn on the Danube, at sea and ashore,
with manifold artistic interventions - to make a new mix for the Kunstradio
programme which will be sent on air live.
