Agreed with your comment. I am a Canadian producer of experimental, often
electronic sound, and I live in Montreal, so I have had some contact with
the CEC. Although I wouldn't call my own work "electroacoustic," it is often
labelled as such. It is this type of institutional structure that simply
ensures the division between the nomads exterior to the institution and
those composers interior to its increasingly dated structures.
And expensive pyramid schemes!
I know of few academic composers would would even be willing to afford such
production costs.
I find this whole proposal a little hard to believe. Who in their right mind
would pay so much cash to release a simple track?
It's also difficult to reconcile with the truly innovative spirits I have
met at the CEC and who are open to non-institutional music (read:
experimental electronica).
A step backwards, this one.
