OTHER VOICES: echoes from a War Zone.
Live mix: Gordan Paunovic (YU)

29 April 1999
22:15 - 24:00 (CET)
21:15 - 23:00 (GMT)
07:15 - 0900 (AUS EST)
16:15 - 18:00 (USA EST)

Live from Studio 4 in the Radio House Vienna
on Österreich 1 (Culture channel of Austrian National Radio)
http://thing.at/orfkunstradio Real Audio Live, Live Webcam
Including a live link with Belgrade.

This live project is an artistic statement regarding the war in Yugoslavia,
and a message of solidarity, supporting the free voice of Radio B92.

This project is produced in co-operation with ANEM,
r a d i o q u a l i a and others.

As the internet has grown and become more complex, new forms of expression
have evolved. Artists have been able to create projects which link
together traditional communications forms such as radio, with newer
technological forms, such as the internet, enabling cross-cultural and
international collaborations. KUNSTRADIO has exploited the possibilities
created by the internet, by ensuring that projects often occur across three
discrete and equally significant platforms; on AIR; on LINE and on SITE.
Some of the most significant of these recent projects have involved artists
from Yugoslavia.

In deference to KUNSTRADIO's association with artists from Yugoslavia, and
in response to the unfolding tragedy in the region, a special live
programme will listen to, and amplify other voices from the war zone.

"OTHER VOICES: echoes from a War Zone" will fuse pre-recorded and live
information, comprising texts, music, interviews, ambient sound, and radio
works, into a soundscape to be broadcast on the Austrian national radio
culture channel (Oesterreich 1 - 92 Mhz). The programme will blend
existing radio work from the KUNSTRADIO archives, with new work responding
to the situation in the Balkans.

KUNSTRADIO have succeeded in bringing radio artist, GORDAN PAUNOVIC, to
Vienna, to produce a special live radio mix of the programmeme. Gordan
Paunovic has a long history of participation in KUNSTRADIO projects. Until
recently he was engaged with renowned Belgrade broadcasting entity, Radio
B92, as the Head of the Music Department. Since the advent of war, Radio
B92 has been taken over by a new management team with very different
intentions to the original B92 operation, which itself has been locked out
of its former premises.

OTHER VOICES: ECHOES FROM THE WAR ZONE will be globally accessible over
the World Wide Web live. The webcast will comprise images, texts and an
audio visual broadcast from the Vienna studios. The audio programme, and
informational material contextualising the event, will be also be archived
after the broadcast on the KUNSTRADIO website:
http://thing.at/orfkunstradio
