dear xchangers,

we want to talk about the xchange website.

the xchange website is a space where we are collected, it is a home of the
network
and includes links to the network and the archive of the mailing list.

we love the community as it is represented on the website, we love its
identity, and
we love the design and how that impacts on the identity of the group.

it would be great to develop the website into a bigger portal to the
xchange network and all the work
of its members.

right now, we are at a stage where as a group we have the advantage, because
we have been around for a long time and have a good relationship with
eachother. but the
entertainment industry is catching up with us, and we will loose our lead
and maybe
our unique identity if we don't quickly distinguish ourselves from other
mainstream
streaming portal websites.

the number of streaming media portals is multiplying: these portals link to
our content,
and yet our personality as a group is not available in these portals as the
dynamic
exciting thing that it is.

actually it is in things like http://www.tmselector.net/ but this is not
the same as
the xchange network because it's rachel's masterpeice ; )

to keep up with the changing times on the internet world around us, we
really need to
make our portal work for us.
the portal needs to be a dynamic entrance to the network:
-- allowing quick updates
-- more extensive links to all the xchangers
-- shared code library
-- a what's on guide
-- irc chat area
-- archive of the mailing list
-- direct access to all the schedulers, eg frequency clock and world service
-- the beautiful design of the current website
-- an offsite element where you can buy members records, issues of acoustic
space, t-shirts, etc
-- easy to maintain regularly

basically it should be the centre of the universe for encoded content, that
listeners
and encoders can go to and trust and know who we are.

xchange@re-lab is re-lab's website. it's a wonderful thing that has proved
that a remote group can produce work together over a network.

xchange is the first streaming media network, and is a constant source of
inspiration and support.

we should really talk about this, and we should do it soon before it is to
late.
if it is possible, we should try to meet on irc at the next regular ozone
broadcast, or whenever the re-lab crew can make it.

best, zina and adam.
