The "Babel" project - A call for assistance from Nigel Helyer.

Currently I am developing an audio installation for a large 3D speaker
matrix entitled "Babel".   Physically the work will be constructed as a
circular tower of 'Seatainers' equipped with speaker drivers, which will be
installed as an outdoor work for the ReSonance Sound Art Festival in Seoul
Korea 2001.

Conceptually the work is developed from the historical/biblical accounts of
the Tower of Babel and therefore has a high level of audio content which
relates to both construction processes and to spoken language (preferably
within the same context; ie spoken voice associated with architectural
construction techniques and processes).

I am asking a series of international Artists to contribute a short audio
recording made in their locale - which documents a variety of construction
activity and associated spoken word (ie in a range of languages).

Recordings should be:-
1. Up to 10 minutes duration (longer if you have the time and patience!).
2. In DAT format @ 44.1 KHz and 16 bit.
3. In Stereo or Mono.
4. May include both close mike and distant mike techniques.
5. If possible include a range of hand-construction and machine-construction
sounds.
6. Include spoken/shouted instructions and communications related to the
construction process.
7. Recordings should be of the highest possible technical quality.

All contributions will be acknowledged within the completed work and any
associated publicity or reportage.

Contributions should arrive in Australia by the end of May 2001.
