JOB DESCRIPTION
Approximately 70% of India lives in the rural parts of the country. Access to
media is an issue to be reckoned with. Its denial in several cases handicaps
their right to information and impedes the process of development. Madhyam
Communications (VOICES) has for the past 5 years been working towards the
democratisation of media to empower less privileged communities and enable them
to overcome poverty. A central objective of the project is to promote community
participation through community based media to support development activities in
the region. The volunteer will work in the coordination of the Community Media
Project at Kolar and subsequently in Kannakapura. This will involve capacity
building in audio production and management, liaising with external agencies,
funding and programme and developing programmes to broadcast on the local radio
station. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and support capacity building of communities
in radio/media skills, vision and organisation;
Coordinate production and management of audio programmes;
Liaise between community, project office, VOICES and CECI;
Write for VOICES for change;
Develop fund raising strategies for community media;
Develop regional and international networking.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor or Master in communication and media;
4 years background in media and communications;
Good written and spoken English.
CONTRACT DURATION AND DEPARTURE DATE
Two-year contract starting as soon as possible.
