34kbit-stream meets cinema

10th of November 2001, at "backup - festival.new.media in film"
(weimar,germany)

streaming technology offers the possibility of worldwide reception, to
connect to and interact with people around the globe. the own aesthetic of this
technology, the mode of communication and the interfaces to other media such as
radio, television, cinema, theater or club are aspects that are of interest
to the members of pingfm in their work.

after pingfm having already worked on several of these intersections, the
backup-festival 2001 opens the cinema-space for pingfm. from a window, size
of a matchbox onto the large movie screen. welcome out of focus!

the question in the center of attention on the 10th of November .2001 will
be if and how narration is possible in the cinema utilizing a 34-kbit webcast
and the reduced technical quality that goes with it. which new demands are
being posed to the "filmmakers"? which new forms of storytelling does
webcasttechnology and its aesthetic offer?

in order to test different approaches pingfm is inviting all interested
webcastgroups and individuals to tell their "story". all participants will have
the opportunity to perform live in a cinema via the internet. sought-after is
an intensive dealing with the parameters of cinema and webcast, even
abolishing the traditional forms of narration.

the choice of means and content is free.

any interest, question, discussion and suggestion is being appreciated.
