STEIM presents on Thursday June 17th an interactive sound and image performance of STEINA VASULKA and DAVID STOUT
Steina Vasulka, originaly a musician, focusses on the creation and production of interactive video installations and performance. The relations between sound and image in her work are very detailed. In the performance ‘Violin Power’ she creates video images with her midi-violin. David Stout analyses these images and transfers them into sound.
David Stout is a video artist, director, and composer. His work in interactive media is a synthesis of moving image, music+sound and performance. ‘SignalFire’, is a video-sound performance exploring interactive techniques to generate sound and image from a series of short loops of video noise (television snow). A central component of this approach is that all sound or music is synthesized directly from the image; this sound and any sounds emitted from the performer in the immediate environment can be directed back into the system to effect various aspects of visual form, color, scale and movement. As with a Theremin Stout can manipulate the images and sound with hand movements.
