Now that Napster is basically useless I've been using Limewire (on the Mac)
http://www.limewire.com/

This is only a first impression because I've only used it a few times. It's
working just fine for me.

You select the category you want to search (Audio, Video, etc), type in a
word (I'm going to experiment more with the search) and press GO. A search
for the Ramones yielded 1,003 songs .... including several I couldn't find
on Napster anymore (on Napster I had to search for the Remones, Ramoans,
Rammones, etc ... gets to be a pain). It's a little more work than Napster
but it works! I selected several and downloaded them simultaneously.

The search yields a list with all the same info as Napster (bitrate of file,
time, connection speed, etc).

A search for "Sounds" yielded a huge list of all sorts of interesting stuff
from porno sound tracks, sound effects, synth patches, etc.

Every once in a while it freezes when you first connect ... you can just
Force Quit and reopen and it works again. (Napster used to quit unexpectedly
alot during downloads).

more later as i spend more time with it .... thumbs up so far!
